Benefits of Buying an Off-Lease Computer

Computer Leasing

If you've done very much shopping for a computer you've likely seen units that were advertised as "off lease". So what does leasing mean, and, what sort of difference could it make to a buyer that a previously-owned computer has been used in a lease environment?

Computers - and computer equipment - are often leased to businesses and organizations in the same way (and for the same sorts of reasons) that vehicles are leased. By leasing their equipment an organization is assured that (1) they always have state-of-the-art, ultra-reliable hardware and (2) more importantly, that their equipment is always covered by some form of service contract and/or warranty. Leased computers are almost always found in mission critical environments where their performance is key to an organization's function and success. Given the demands placed on leased units and the nature of a leasing arrangement, leased computers are typically subjected to an optimal regimen of service and mainentance. By comparison to most previously owned computers it is extremely unlikely that such units have ever been subjected to various type of abuse or neglect.

A Case in Point

While computers are leased by organizations of all types and descriptions, almost all large medical facilities - hospitals, medical laboratories, etc. - lease their computer equipment. Why? The reasons are obvious: in such settings, quite literally, the quality of the available computer equipment can have a bearing on quickly diagnosing illnesses and saving people's lives. In a medical setting, in the 21st century, computers are life saving tools.   And, as such, the computers at work in a medical setting must be of very high quality and need to be meticulously maintained.  Elsewhere, leasing is also popular with financial corporations, schools and colleges, and businesses of all sizes.

In short, due to their inherhent high quality and superior maintenance, off-lease computers made available for re-sale to the public are considered to be a premium value in the computer industry - they constitute a great bargain for many computer users.

It's All About Provenance

Whenever we purchase a previously used item we like to know as much about it's history, or provenance, as possible. Unfortunately, sellers may misrepresent an items history - how it's been used, past problems, etc.

Purchasing an off-lease computer gives most buyers a level of comfort that they would likely not feel when buying an otherwise used unit - built for industry and well maintained, they are a premium value.
And sellers who deal in off-lease computers tend to be well-trained professionals who test the units before they are re-sold. Finally, depending upon the lease status and seller terms, the unit may even include a warranty (see details, further down this page).
